Anyone remember this girl? From Pearl’s first litter… it’s Polly! She arrived back here in the NW on Tuesday night and we went down to Kim’s today to evaluate her. We all think she is beautiful and will finish easily even though she lacks flash. She has the biggest bone of any cardigan bitch I have ever seen. It’s the size of soda cans! Lovely long and low with nice shoulder lay back, pretty neck, posternum and drop.
We are dogged out, over dogged or also known as WE HAVE TOO MANY!
So she has gone to live with Jason, Alta and Liam. Jason has the show bug just like Mark.
Polly has an amazing temperament and will fit in nicely with their pack.
Once she finishes we’ll breed her to Casper (she is OFA pre-limed with a GOOD!) and then maybe Liam will get her for a wife.

and the Shea butter at 14 weeks, I think?

garden update: planted kohlorabi, bok choy, broccoli rabe, leeks, walla wallas, bunching green onions and romaine last week
chicken update: bought 6 new 8 week old girls this week. 4 rhode islands and 2 buff orpingtons
and I sneezed at Kim’s and my back went out. I think I shall go disappear into the tub overflowing with bubbles.

I am not chopping all this by hand!
This is about 1/10th the amount of produce left in the garden. We’re supposed to have a good freeze tonight and I just couldn’t see it all going to waste. So I had a friend come over and haul out twice this much for her family. I can hear my Monday morning message at work, “Thanks a lot you beyatch! I just spent 12 hours in the kitchen because of you!”
Tomorrow shall be named “Salsa Sunday”…

I kid you not… she’s found the fermented tomatoes on the ground.

Anyway, like I was sayin’,
Zucchini is the fruit of the earth.
You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it,
saute it. There, uh, Zucchini kabobs,
Zucchini creole,Zucchini gumbo, panfried, deep fried,
stir fried. There’s pineapple Zucchini,
lemon Zucchini, coconut Zucchini,
pepper Zucchini, Zucchini soup, Zucchini stew,
Zucchini salad, Zucchini and potatoes,
Zucchini burger, Zucchini sandwich…
that’s, that’s about it.

The sole purpose of planting the tomatillos in the garden was to attract bees in for pollination. While slow in appearing, they’ve definitely made a huge difference this year. This morning they were out front passed out on the echinacea. They’d fly 2 inches over to the next blossom and pass out there for a good 30 minutes before hitting the next. Tonight they are all passed out hanging off the tomatillo blossoms.

The very first tomatoes, pasilla and anaheim peppers.

I was gone one day and there are about 20lbs of beans to pick, the first shell peas are ready, the corn is now over 9′ tall, the pumpkin… don’t get me started on the pumpkin that ate Seattle. Let’s just say I’m going to be paying people to take one of the 100 or so I see out there.
Cool 90 expected today. 56% humidity in the house is killing me!
